🌍 SADC: regional regulatory approaches

Why neighbouring countries have different legal frameworks and cross-border requirements.

Educational status • 21 October 2026: Regulatory requirements are jurisdiction- and activity-specific. Verify current primary documents before relying on any statement.

What SADC means

The Southern African Development Community is a regional organisation, not a single crypto-asset licensing authority. A rule applicable in one member state does not automatically apply in another.

Cross-border reality

A platform serving users in several countries may face different rules for marketing, payments, remittances, exchange control, tax, consumer protection, privacy and AML/CFT.

Questions for businesses

Where is the provider incorporated? Where are customers located? Does the service custody assets, exchange them, transmit value or merely publish educational content? Which regulator has jurisdiction?

Verification method

Use each national regulator and published legislation. Do not assume SADC membership creates a common passport for virtual-asset businesses.

Official sources and verification

Consult the regulator's latest publications, legal texts and licensing records. Links below are starting points, not evidence that any particular provider is authorised.
